About Eagle House and First Move.

The Beginnings...

In 1990, Mrs Gulzar Eagle, a qualified social worker with experience in many fields, was at last in a position to realise a desire to provide high quality service to young people in care. She had, for many years, felt that there was a shortage of good resources catering for the needs of this disadvantaged group.

By September of that year, a suitable property had been found in Northwood, Middlesex with good communications to most London boroughs and neighbouring counties. The house was a normal private residential house prepared to provide accommodation for up to 9 young people in homely surroundings. From the beginning, high standard accommodation and physical care were a foundation for the work to be done with the residents. Although registration was not a requirement at the time of opening, the house was completed to such a standard that no changes or modifications were required by the subsequent registration process.

Northwood has been the base of the partnership's services and growth.

Now and the Future

The Eagle House Partnership now provides a portfolio of services through our complementary but independent projects.

1. EAGLE HOUSE
A registered residential children's home catering for a mixed group of nine residents of 13 years old plus. The home is medium term and offers a safe therapeutic milieu from which young people can begin to make sense of their emotional, social and family problems. It is staffed by a Care Manager and a team of Deputy Manager, Assistant Manager, Senior Residential Childcare Worker's, Residential Childcare Workers and a full time teacher.

2. FIRST MOVE
A project for 16 years old plus, preparing young people for independent living. Clients are placed in independent flats and supported in custom prepared programmes by a team of a manager, deputy manager, two assistant managers, senior outreach workers, outreach workers and overnight support workers.

3. THE CRESCENT

Often working hand in hand with mental health The Crescent is a registered home for four to five young people aged 16 plus in the transition to more independent living who may have suffered trauma in their lives including young pregnant women, those new to the country who may have witnessed civil war, unrest and displacement to a new environment  and any young person requiring a more intensive individual programme.

While staffed and run independently all projects are able to draw on each others skills and a panel of consultants and counsellors.

The future will see the Eagle House Partnership consolidating on its position and skills as a supplier of high quality services to vulnerable client groups and a commitment to ongoing training of staff for the sector.
